Green Building

Why build Green? We can’t see why you wouldn’t. When building green you’re not just protecting our environment, you're getting a home or business that is healthier, more comfortable, more durable and more energy efficient. Most people don't realize that thier home impacts the environment more than the vehicles they drive. To counteract this, we need to build smarter homes and businesses. Green Ridge Builders is committed to reducing construction’s environmental footprint. We realize that implementing smarter green design and construction is our role in achieving sustainability right here in northeast Ohio.
Scott Ervin, president of Green Ridge Builders, LLC is LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, Accredited Professional). LEED is an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings developed by the United States Green Building Council. Green Ridge Builders is a member of the United States Green Building Council (www.usgbc.org).
I understand our project was very challenging, especially with the adaptive reuse of an 1840’s barn inside our retail space. We were fortunate to find a company with a unique combination of skills that could manage the entire process for us, from design through construction, and offer us the green experience we were looking for. Our project was on budget and on schedule and we couldn’t be happier with our choice.

Using green or sustainable building practices benefits everyone and building green doesn’t have to add cost. Building green will always save you money in the long run. A little careful planning is all you need. When asked what it means to have a green building, most people will likely say it means the building is more energy efficient than a typical building. That’s great, because energy efficiency is a very big part of being green.
In addition, there are many other considerations when determining how green you are. The location of the project in relationship to the larger community, the site selection and your site stewardship, water efficiency both inside and out, selection and utilization of environmentally preferable materials, and indoor air quality are just a few other considerations when evaluating the sustainability of your next project.
A building system that fits well with our interest in green building is the super energy efficient, durable and healthy Insulating Concrete Forms, or ICF. Click here for more information about ICFs.
While the extent of environmental responsibility for a construction project is largely owner driven, Green Ridge Builders implements a measure of green in every project, because it just makes good sense. If you’re reading this, chances are you have an interest in helping us reduce construction’s impact on the environment. We congratulate you for caring and hope you will consider working with a green builder for your next construction project. Please feel free to contact us for some ideas on how you can “green-up” your next project.
